PPE Notified Bodies in Hungary: Who They Are and How to Choose One
Aug 7, 2026 · 3 min read
CE marking of Category II and III personal protective equipment requires a notified body: only such an organisation may carry out the EU type-examination (Module B) and, for Category III, the surveillance of production (Module C2 or D). Notified bodies are designated by the Member States and notified to the European Commission; the register is public and anyone can verify it in the EU NANDO database.
Notified bodies in Hungary under Regulation (EU) 2016/425
As bodies notified under Regulation (EU) 2016/425 on personal protective equipment, seven Hungarian organisations currently appear in the NANDO register (in order of notified-body number, under their registered names):
- NB 1008 – TÜV Rheinland InterCert Muszaki Felügyeleti és Tanúsító Korlátolt Felelosségu Társaság
- NB 1523 – INNOVATEXT Textile Engineering and Testing Institute Co.
- NB 1524 – BIMEO VIZSGALO ES KUTATO-FEJLESZTO KFT.
- NB 1556 – MADI es TARSA Technical, Safety and Service Ltd. Testing Laboratory
- NB 2233 – GÉPTESZT Termelőeszközöket Felülvizsgáló és Karbantartó Kft.
- NB 3126 – KOTE Inspection Kft.
- NB 3215 – Hexon-Gold Tanácsadó, Szolgáltató Kft.
It is important to know that notified-body status is always tied to specific fields of designation: an organisation may perform conformity assessment only within the scope it has been designated for. Each body's current fields of designation can be checked in the NANDO database — always worth doing before you choose.
What to consider when choosing a notified body
- Field of designation: does it precisely cover your product category (e.g. fall protection, respiratory protection, head protection)?
- Testing background: where and how is laboratory testing performed — does the body have its own ISO/IEC 17025 testing laboratory?
- Production-surveillance practice: how does it organise Module C2/D surveillance, and what travel costs does that carry?
- Language and accessibility: in what language does the procedure run, and how direct is the professional contact?
- Professional involvement: does the body take part in the EU coordination of notified bodies (Horizontal Committee, Vertical Groups)?
A manufacturer is free to choose any notified body in the European Union designated for its product — what matters is that the chosen body's designation covers the product and that the cooperation runs smoothly.
GÉPTESZT as a notified body
GÉPTESZT Kft. (NB 2233) has been a notified body since 2009. Its fields of designation: fall protection and respiratory protection (Category III — Module B + C2/D), head protection (Category II — Module B), and production surveillance of Category III safety footwear and protective gloves (Module C2/D). Testing is performed in its in-house ISO/IEC 17025 laboratory, and it is an active member of the PPE notified bodies' Horizontal Committee and the relevant Vertical Groups.
